The SSE2 story.

During the installation of the latest ARP/wARP version, 7.0.1, you might see the following warning:
***WARNING***
The CPU on this hardware platform is lacking the SSE2 instruction set!
Some executables of ARP/wARP 7.0.1 however depend on these. Take notice that
part of the software will not work and consider remote job submission to the
dedicated facility at EMBL-Hamburg.
That means that your machine is either a really old Intel based computer (previous millenium) or a rather old Athlon/AMD machine (2002 or older). The easiest solution is to use a newer computer.

We have however tried to address the issue for these old machines that some users might indeed want to use, and you can download this archive which contains executables that are likely to work on your older PCs. Simply extract the files and copy them to the $warpbin directory. It would be nice to comment if they work - you can post an email to the blog!

ARP/wARP 7.0.1 is released!

As the version number implies this release contains bug fixes and only minor enhancement of the functionality. Most noteworthy:

  • Installation problems (mostly related to the use of python) have been addressed and a number of bugs fixed in various ARP/wARP modules.
  • The installation script can now automatically plug ARP/wARP GUI into CCP4i.
  • A command line script auto_flex_warp.sh has been added.
  • Enhancements in the loop building module allow faster construction of longer loops.
  • Some encouragement to update to the recent refmac5 version is implemented.
  • The web-based job submission, now directs the execution to a new 64-processor 2.0 GHz 64-bit Linux cluster at Hamburg.

... and of course this Blog is now advertised and we hope it gets lots of visitors!

We would love to have your comments on the blog idea ... so, click below!

    ARP/wARp 7.0.1 is coming

We are making good progress towards the release of version 7.0.1 of ARP/wARP, with minor bug fixes. This blog will be announced and will start having useful information upon release of this version, which should appear before the end of November the latest.

7.0.1 has several bug fixes, mostly around the flex-wARP module and the use of python in various operating systems.

    ARP/wARP 7.0 is released

We are happy to announce the release of ARP/wARP version 7.0

Please visit http://www.arp-warp.org for details and software download.

    The major improvements are:

  • A new module for ultra-fast low resolution tracing of helical and beta-stranded fragments at resolution down to 4.5 A.
  • Improved and faster chain tracing, working at lower resolution than before, for both 'Classic' and 'flex-wARP' modules.
  • Flex-wARP, a control system which automatically defines the sequence of the steps to be taken during iterative model building.
  • Considerably advanced automated ligand building with ~80% success in site identification and ~70% in ligand constructions.
  • An option for ‘cocktail screening’; the most likely ligand is identified and built from a list of potential compounds.
  • Improved fragment sequence docking with empirical targets extracted from experimental datasets.
  • A validation program ElAl (originated from G. Kleywegt) based on statistical density targets from the EDS implemented in flex-wARP.
  • A standalone module for side chain building and refinement.
  • A module for building loops between fragments implemented in flex-wARP and provided standalone.
  • The solvent building module with incremental improvements as a dedicated module.
  • Remote job submission at the EMBL Hamburg cluster directly from the web in addition to the CCP4i GUI.
  • Command-line job submission for most ARP/wARP tasks.
  • ARP/wARP is now running on Mac powerpc, Mac Intel, some flavours of Linuxes (i32 and 64-bit ) as well as alpha-Tru64 and mips-IRIX64.
